I bought a set of green manuals and some of the Bosch training literature in '86 when I bought my '81 with 90k miles. And yes I remember dot matrix printers. Home publishing tools now rival anything save an autographed leather bound edition.

Very elementary, and it's only good for a car up to '85 or so ... 200 1981

I got the original "published" edition (I bought it from the VCoA around 1986 or so), and because I see that you have a 1981, I'd give it an unenthusiastic OK as a recommendation for that model year, but depending on your skills and basic knowledge which I don't know -- but a far, far better purchase would be the Bentley repair manual, which would make the Problem Solver obsolete. In fact, I don't remember ever finding anything useful -- it was very elementary, sort of like "car repair for dummies", only specific for Volvo 240s.

My edition was a bunch of pages in plastic sleeves collected in a looseleaf binder. It's all dot-matrix printed (you may not even be old enough to recall what a dot-matrix printer is) with very, very crude diagrams, consistent with the printer's generation.

I compared the contents of the link you provided with my own manual's, and I couldn't find any difference -- except for the addition of the words "Advanced Edition".

"the words "Advanced Edition"."

there were 2 editions....if you don't have the Advanced Edition then you might think that it's

"it was very elementary, sort of like "car repair for dummies", only specific for Volvo 240s."

It's not "elementary" by any means.

It's a PROBLEM SOLVER and worth having. It provides trouble shooting direction and solutions to most all the questions that areregularly asked on this board..... poor running, no start, and charging problems...

This is a book put together by those who have worked as Volvo mechanics.

I got one from RPR years ago ---they were $66 for the Advanced Edition...it has paid for itself. I have a 75 B20 KJet, an 80 with a KJet and an 87 with a LH ...it has been usefull for all three.

But it's out of print....the download is free.

""The procedures laid out in this manual have been honed from many years of mechanical experience specifically on Volvos. The procedures come from the service departments of 4 Volvo dealerships in a very large metropolitan market. We have also taken some from independent import repair facilities that do a lot of work on Volvos."""
