okay, now after a painful mcgyvering of the reverse lights, still no action. wondering if the reverse light relay could be the issue...ipd doesn't seem to sell them, nor does the local kragen. any suggestions on who carries them, or a suitable alternative part?

are you certain that the spring/contact in the aluminum shifter shaft cover at the back of the transmission is intact?

Unfortunately, no one will carry the correct relay if you do need one.

Volvo still sells it, but it very expensive and looks different than the original.

You can substitute a relay commonly used by stereo and alarm shops, but you have to add a jumper wire.

It is way cheaper than the Volvo relay which costs over $37.00.

Before condemning the relay, check for power to the relay, check the ground signal from the transmission and check continuity of the light wire to the trunk.

BTW on old "broken" relays you can open the them up redress the points and 9/10 Xs you get lucky...
