reverse light refurbishment 120-130

hi all,

i had a fun time this afternoon trying to re-connect my reverse lights -- the 40-some year old wires had snapped off where they go into the light housing. at any rate, reconnecting them is a pain, as the little clamp holding the corroded shards of the original wire are not really designed to be re-used.

has anyone out there refurbished the taillight connections, and if so, do you have any suggestions for what sorts of electrical bits and pieces i can use to get things back in working order?

thanks again,
f. ramp

    I found a good replacement to repairing /re-wireing the taillight assy. by using the 1 & 2-wire pigtail connector made by Barjan Products. They fit perfectly in the taillight reflector. I found mine at the local truck stop, but sometimes I have seen them for sale on ebay, 4 sets @$3.99 (buy-it-now).

        Floyd;

        If you mean the crimped on terminations which are located in the insulated centering disc and which make contact with the center contact of the lamp, these can also be made by strategic cutting and bending of a crimp terminal...like so:

        ...and if you're refurbing the Backing Lights, you may want to look over the entire rear lighting fixture and minimize resistances in the lamp current paths...see full article here: http://www.sw-em.com/Amazon_Rear_Light_Fixture_Restoration.htm

        Cheers

    Hello,

    Suitable replacements are easily available for the turn signal and reverse light wires and of course we have them in stock.

    The contacts that are on the above mentioned repair kits are too large to fit side by side without touching in the insulator for the running light/brake light socket, so to repair those 2 contacts we have to use salvaged wires from damaged original 122 backing plates.
