I have a '94 945 and the rear hatch will not open with key or from the inside? Any tricks to open? Can you disassembly and get at the latch from the cargo area? Car has auto door lock- that work on all the passenger doors.

    Dear volbro245,

    Hope you're well. If the hatch cannot be opened, there's no way to get at the latch mechanism, without destroying the hatch's interior panel, in the top center of which is the release lever.

    It seems that the connecting rod - between the interior and exterior handles - has come free from the latch mechanism. As a result, the latch cannot be moved.

    To open the hatch, you'll need to pry-off the interior panel and access the latch mechanism from the inside.

    You may be able to find a replacement hatch panel at a salvage yard. At a dealer this part will cost about $200.
