v90 starts, runs for 30 to 40 seconds stumbles and stalls, will not continue running. S90-V90 1998

Purchased a 98 v90, Was running great, wife said it started to stumble and she was able to get in the driveway and it stalled. Will start over and over but continues to stall..application of throttle no help. Will not stay running long enough to even attempt to drive. Have two error codes, 00455 and 00411.
Found several vacuum line boots totally shot, replaced same. Air pump is pumping air on start, the shut off valve is working with good vacuum from the control valve. Emissions canister plumbing all looks good. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Dave

I just thought that you might unplug the electrical connector to the mass air flow meter and place the car in the "limp home" mode. This may indicate a bad air mass meter if the car continues to run essentially the same. I'ts worth a try.

I haven't checked in for a while but I have a 97 965 and a 98 V90 and here are my experiences with OBDII codes. The Motronic 4.4 manual does not cover those codes as far as I can tell, however, the Product data booklet (small ~13mm X 9mm) does list your codes in Mode 1 (the second set of codes in the book under Fuel system (A2))
Electronic transmission A1
Modes 1-6
Fuel system (A2)
Mode 1 (among others)
411 Throttle Position (TP) sensor signal exceeded voltage limits;
455 Misfire cyclinder 5,emission levels exceeded.
These two codes are in Mode 1 only as opposed to mode 2 (not labelled);
Mode 3 Regina and all the other LH systems except 4.4;
Mode 4 FENIX;
ABS (A3) 411 ABS Left front whee inlet valve or short circuit;
Mode 1(unidentified but seems to be brake related);
Mode 4 Basic code transmission rate;
TCU (A5) TCU; (guess Turbo control Unit);
Mode 3 Engine coolant and some turbo codes;
Igntion system (A6);
Mode 1 seems to deal with sensors;
Mode 2 more sensors;
Mode 3 info on model years 92-93;
Combined instrument panel (A7);
Mode 1 engine coolant temp too long + Engine speed sensor)other digital output info;
Mode 3 various gauges faults;
Mode 4 technical info for Volvo technition;
Mode 5 odometer functions;
Mode 6 odometer and engine time service;
Climate control, ECC 900 (control panel)
Mode 1 air conditioning faults (too many to list)

So here are the fault code I have. I think the ones you are concerned with are in Mode 1 under Fuel system (A2) as they are (both codes) there. I think all the other codes and modes are available only with the Official Volvo Diagnostic Tools.
Have you perhaps substituted another air mass meter?
Hope this helps as your post was a while ago.
Dr. Volvo

You've been checking the right places. If you can track down ever single vacuum hose (and there are quite a few so it's a bit of a pain) and check for leaks, cracks, rotted hoses, replace as necessary and then reset the OBDII codes and see what comes back. Also check to make sure you have no intake air leaks after the MAF sensor.

I was planing to send you the fault tracing trees for Volvo OBDII codes 0455 and 0411 but I only have the Volvo Green Book for the 1.8 Motronic system and yours is a Motronic 4.4 system.
