Water pump pulley too close to head 900 1992

Putting the 92 945T back together after a head gasket job. I've installed a new water pump but when I install the pulley on the pump it seems to scrape against the plastic of the timing belt cover and the grooves don't eyeball as lined up either. This has the electric fan so the pulley just bolts onto the water pump. I'm wondering if I need washers between the water pump and the pulley and then insert the bolts or lost some kind of spacer. I can't seem to find an exploded parts drawing to look at.

    This is caused by a couple of things such as poor quality aftermarket part;
    rebuilt core with decked head surface and outer bearing.
    Worn alt and PS pump bushings.

    When I have this problem I use 3/16 or 1/4" washers between the pump pulley base and the pulley itself. You may need to stack a couple of them in between.

    Is it an OE TB cover? The aftermarkets can be a poor fit too.

    Do you still have the old pump?

    Sometimes the flange is just pressed on too far.

    If you decide to move the flange, add some locktite to the shaft.
