I am wondering what the opinions are on power steering fluid.
Is Dexron ATF just fine for power steering fluid, or should you use "power steering fluid"?
I have an 85 240.

Can't go wrong following the owners manual. The 1985 240 manual calls for "ATF" in the PS system. For the automatic trans it specifies Dexron II (now superseded by Dexron III and Dexron VI, which are backward compatible).

Going by the pictures in that manual, your car has a GM-Saginaw PS pump, so the Dexron (a GM trademark) sounds like the correct ATF.

I have used Dextron ATF for many years as an alternative to power steering fluid (less expensive). No problemas so far. But don't use ATF on a car that is still under warantee.
