why would the IAC hose going to the intake air hose be connected to a blocked port? 700 1991

I got a 2-2-1 code on my 700 after experiencing some rough running while the car was cold.

I checked for intake air leaks and found the hose from the IAC valve to the air intake hose disconnected. So I thought I was done until I realized that the port it should be plugged into was a blocked port! It wouldn't allow air to get to the IAC valve since the manufacturer made the hose blocked.

So how does the IAC valve get air into it if it is attached to no air?

Should I drill a hole through the plastic of the intake hose so the IAC valve gets what I would assume that it needs?

confused,

Jack

There should be an outlet on air box. Or right there around it.

It goes to the air cleaner case. The stumbling tho is probably from the vac hose to the manifold pressure sensor.I bet there is a leak there.

THanks - I found the hole on the air filter box... it fits perfectly to there.

I don't know where the Manifold Pressure Sensor is though? I never heard of that part on a Volvo.... or do you mean the AMM (Mass Air Flow Sensor)?

thanks

Manifold Pressure Sensor DOES exist on this car, not sure if exactly called that as i cant remember at the moment but it is location on the drvers side strut tower brace, has a sheet metal plate on top of it with a hard vac hose going to it, it monitors the vac pressure and relays the info to the computer to adjust idle and such. has GM stamped on it under the plate. 2 phillips screws secure it.

If not a turbo car, most '91 740's are likely to have Regina FI which uses a MAP sensor and inlet Air Temp in place of the Bosch AMM. But there are exceptions I've heard of.
