Stuck distributor won't turn 200

Just had my dlr. tech clean the very dirty throttle body & plate sensor on my '80 B21F. While checking other things he noticed the distributor is set at 12 deg. BTDC. When he unbolted the plate to turn the distributor it wouldn't move; frozen to the block. Any suggestions on how to unfreeze so that we can back to 8-10 BTDC? Thanks.

Cal

My owners manual for my '80 DL n/a K-jet engine says 12 degrees + or - 2 degrees. I have mine set for 14 degrees and run premium gas, it keeps the motor peppy ;)

That's funny; my owners manual, also for an '80 242DL, says 8 deg. +/- 2 deg. Mine is a non-turbo, no A/C, no PS, plain Jane, but I like it that way.

A few drips of Kroil penetrating oil over a few days should loosen it. Be careful tapping stuff with hammer, give it some time for the oil to work it free.

drive it until it's hot, 2 hours or so. spray the area with wd40 or something like it. soak it good overnight. try moving it. continue until you succeed. or, get a co2 fire exstinguisher, pull the cap, rotor and harness off, put nozzle on dist and fire. the cold co2 will shrink the dist. just harder to get a co2 exstinguisher these days. used to use 1 in the first shop i worked in for that problem, bearings and such. good luck, chuck.

There's Freeze-Off .... 200

Instead of a CO2 fire extinguisher, you can try Freeze-Off. It's for loosening fasteners -- same principle, make the metal shrink. On the shelves where you'd buy PB Blaster, etc. (which still works better, IMHO).

Don't bother you're only 2 degree off, and all the B230 engines are set at 12 degrees anyway. Wait till you need an entire overhaul or the distributor breaks.

Soak it with PB Blaster and maybe some taps with a hammer and drift at the base.

It is easier to move when the block is good and hot.
