Let me tell you how bad it is...
The valves are bent, so, pull the head and it's associated cam carrier, get the valves replaced, get the correct adhesive for putting the cam carrier back on, give yourself plenty of time, and take it easy when removing the cams so you don't break them...
Put aside about $800 for the parts and the labor for a shop to fix the head (replace all the valves and a light valve job).
ANd then remind your s-in law to change the timing belt BEFORE IT GETS to 50000 miles!!!
