Buying a 940/no sunroof 900

Hello there, newbie to this forum, I am considering buying a 940 wagon. I tried out a 95 sedan with a sunroof and thought the headroom was to tight for me. Do all the 940's have sunroofs? If so I could look at a 740 as I thought they did not all have sunroofs. I was trying to stay newer than 93 as I thought that is when they had passenger air bag. Any help would be appreciated.

    Dear Dented,

    Hope you're well. All 940s do NOT have sunroofs. The passenger airbag was introduced in 1994. Only 1994 and 1995 models sold in North American markets have the passenger airbag.

    Please see this site's FAQs for a list of things, of which to be aware, when buying a 940.

    Try to get maintenance records from the seller, or, use Carfax to find out where the car "lived" and contact Volvo dealers in that area, to see if the car was serviced by them. If so, they may share records, if you emphasize that they should remove their former customer's name/address.

    A record of regular oil changes, etc., suggests that the former owner was careful about maintenance. Volvos do not do well, if neglected.

    If maintenance is done on-time and properly, the 940 can go for several hundred thousand miles/kilometers.

      Yes, that helps a lot. I have mostly seen 940's with a sunroof but I will start aking now before I look. And I will try to check on maintenace records as well, as I plan on keeping the car for a while and it would be nice to get a well cared for one to start with.

        Some later 940's were badged '940', no GL, GLE etc. Often they had no sunroof, had cloth seats and steel wheels. Otherwise good solid cars.
