question on s-tube below frame trap on 240 200

I was able to remove and replace the flame trap on my 240. I saw that the s-tube below flap trap was splitting at end. (Below this s-tube, I understand there is the an trap/breather box).

Can I pull it up to remove it? Then can I push down the new one to install? If this is not the case, what would be the best, simple way?

Thanks.

I use a needle-nose pliers to grab the end of the hose.

You can tape the split end and get more life out of it if necessary. Or slip a small piece of larger hose over the end.

If you are talking about removing the S-tube, give it a twist and pull it up to remove it. If you are talking about removing the breather box, there are two bolts that hold it to the engine block, those bolts can be removed with a wrench from under the intake manifold, a very slow and painful process. If you remove the breather box, there is also an O-ring that will need to be replaced and a brittle rubber hose that runs down into the block "DO NOT break that hose!" Doing so would require removing the oil pan at a minimum.

To make flame trap cleaning easier, you should install a longer hose or the flame trap relocation kit.

The rubber/plastic S tube is a push on fit to a nipple protruding from the top of the oil trap. Yes, pull to remove, push to install.

As to be expected, John Sargent is right as rain.

With the s-hose tuck neatly under the manifold, I've found the removal is much easier than the installation. This is one of those tedious 240 jobs which I probably do differently each time I go at it.

I recall using some brake assembly lube or cable pulling lubricant to help ease the hose onto the stub of the breather and then pushing on it with some manner of rod. I'm still searching for the exact pair of forceps which are shaped to fit the hose; I'll have to talk to my surgical guy.

Thank you for everyone's replies.

I will try to replace s-tube next time I bring my car home.

AS 81242DLB21FCA mentioned. See if you can buy a longer hose. It doesn't have to be 'S' shaped. long enough so te Flame trap is up higher for easier access. You will need a slightly longer Small hose for the Flame Trap Holder to Manifold connection.

I had a spare Upper Flametrap hose (the one that runs to the Air intake Bellows. i just cut that one and used it for the top of the Breather. The diameter was the same.
