Head Retightening?? 700 1991

On my '91 745T Wagon, is it necessary to RETIGHTEN the headbolts after a period of running after a headgasket change? I am having to replace my turbo, so I am breaking down my Head again, checking everything out and replacing the gasket and some seals, etc. Any GOOD adivce for me (am learning the car, but still a semi-novice). Also replacing Oil Seperator box and related items. In general, trying to fix old bessie up for a longer life. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your 91 should have the angle-tightened head bolts, which use an external hex. That means they do not require re-tightening. Only the early B21-23 engines used the socket head bolts, which need re-tightening. Even in those cases re-tightening accomplished little, and I always found those early engines very stable for head bolt tightness.
If they were angle tightened correctly, there is nothing to be concerned with.

There is a tightening/torque sequence for the head bolts when you first put the head on, so that's the "re-tightening" right there. There should be no reason to open the valve cover again and tighten them down. I would think you risk warping the head gasket somehow if you did it.

For the PVC, after you remove the two bolts holding it to the block, give it a few taps side to side with a hammer to break it loose from the tube going into the oil pan. If that tube comes out with the box, you'll have to drop the oil pan to get it back on properly.

    Enjoy!

If you haven't already, replace your heater hoses while you have it apart. Replace the heater control valve too. Or you could just eliminate it. It only closes when you select max AC. Also clean and add dielectric grease to the fuel system temp sensor between cyls 3 and 4

Thanks for all the helpful info! Yes, I have already changed the heater hoses last year, along with a new heater control valve.
The oil seperator hopefully will come off and leave the drain tube right where it should be, at least, I HOPE! haha Thanks for that info as well.
I have a can of dielectric grease which I plan on putting on ALL my connections as I clean them and reattach. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
