rubber mat buttons - how do they work? 444-544

Hello All
I just put new rubber mats in my 445 - nice! :)
For the life of me I can't figure out how the mat buttons work (I know, I'm completely embarrassed, but, hey, you do what you have to do).
They come in 3 parts; the screw part, the washer part that snaps onto the screw & the top part. I can't figure out how to get the top part to fit.
Any ideas? :)
Jim

Thanks to all for your help.
Ok, I ordered the following which should allow me to install the mat buttons:
snap fastener tool
http://www.sailrite.com/Snap-Fastener-Installation-Tool
1/8th inch hole cutter
http://www.sailrite.com/Hole-Cutter-1-8_2
There are even educational videos on how to install on these webpages.
Who knew it would take so much effort? :)
Jim

rubber mat buttons - how do they work? 444-544

Hello Guys,
Anybody know the answer to this? I asked Johan at VP auto parts (where I bought the mat buttons) & he doesn't know either (he's going to try to find out - I thought they might be defective but he said others were sold & no one has complained - yet).
Well I know the screw part & the snap part go UNDER the mat, & the snap part snaps nicely on to the screw part BUT the top piece which goes on top of the mat does NOT seem to go on in any way.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Jim

I am not sure exactly what the parts you have look like but snaps that I have installed in other applications require a tool that hammers down on the button part and sort of squishes it on to the washer piece

Hello,

I have seen the tools to roll the rivet part of a common snap at hardware stores and upholstery supply shops.

The easiest tool to use was one that used a pair of Vise-grips.

The only problem with the Vise-grip mounted tool is reach of the jaws limits your access to a small perimeter around the edge of the work area.

Hello,

I started a Google search for "upholstery snaps" and was lead to the following page.

You could seek out the assistance of an upholstery shop.

I am pretty sure most of them have a tool already.

Good luck!

Just one source I found on the web, the manual hammer type ones work for occasional use, maybe a local upholstery shop could set them for you for less than buying a tool you might only need this one time. I used to have these tools but alas no longer in my collection.
Hope this helps
