ODO problem 700

'92 740 wagon. My odometer only works when the cabin temp gets up to "comfortable". The speedo is OK. What can I expect to find if I take it apart? Would it be something like a bad solder joint, or something mechanical?

I located a cluster for a 92 740 on eBay (same as the 760 and 940 according to the seller, but he says it fits cars with the outside temperature indication. I didn't realize this was an option. Will it still fit?

I am almost 2 billion percent positive that 91-2 only fit those years without mods. The 760 and 940 will physically fit but the connections are different.

This is the first symptom of capacitor degradation on your speedo circuit board. Mine did the same thing. You can use DeOxIt and alcohol to clean corrosion for now. See the FAQ for details:

Thanks Steve. That looks like I'd be a while without the instruments. I think I will look for a complete cluster on eBay, so I can do a quick swap, then if it needs the same repairs (likely!) I can repair mine per your info, at my leisure.
Lots of clusters on eBay from 240's - are they the same ?
