minimum disc thickness 120-130

I've got some pulsation from front discs want to have them trued up.
Greenbook states .500"-.504" for new and minimum as .480". Only .020" wear allowable?

What's the feeling out there about min. thickness?

Right now I'm at .495" with .006" runout. I'd probably end up right around .480" losing .014"- .016" total (cutting both sides).

going to .480 is actually discard and not recommended. not enough to dissapate heat from braking. you don't say what car but the only volvo rotors i might turn are 240 ventilated and 7/9 series jumbos, usually on turbos. the rest are too thin to start with. good luck, chuck.

      Hello,

      I respectfully disagree.

We have seen other car brands with thinner rotors that have minimum thickness of over .040" undersized from new.

So we use .040" under as our minimum thickness for early Volvo rotors with a lot of success.

This effectively doubles the life of the rotors.

Besides, the reason for having a minimum thickness for a brake rotor is more to prevent a caliper piston from over extending and causing a catastrophic leak.

I agree with your respectful disagreement!
I assume this is for a 122 and their disks are actually thicker than the ones on my 69 164!
I would not be hesitant to use disks that clean up at 0.480"
