90-240 Starla "cat back' sucessfull installation 200

The only thing that worried me about this was how to remove the old(welded) pipe from the end of the cat.

As it turned out, it was a lot of worrying for nothing. I used a drimel tool. First a grinder to weaken the weld, then a cutting wheel to cut a seam, length wise(being careful not to cut into the cat pipe), on both sides of the muffler pipe and pryed the muffler of. No problem.

The starla muffler and pipes fit really good and lined up pretty well.

One problem: I couldnt get one of the hangers on. One holding the muffler just aft of the cat pipe. Presently I have a couple of plastic racheting strips in place where the hanger should be, but Im thinking its probably something that should have a better solution . Id appreciate any input on the hanger issue.
It doesnt, however, seem to be a problem. There is no rattling or excessive movement.

Larue

This one can be difficult, try stretching the installed rubber donut by tying a rope around the pipe or muffler and pulling it towards the one you are trying to get on. Pry bars, large screw drivers also help. I got a hooked shaped muffler hanger tool from Autozone that also helps stretch the donut into place.

What was the issue?? The 'rubber band' wouldn't fit over the Bracket on the car? I leave them on the car and stretch them onto the Muffler

Thanks. Stretching the rubber to the muffler is what I did in the past. But this one seems a little to far away. Im going to look for a universal hanger that will work.

      Thanks.

You can probably get a universal hanger at one of the big auto parts houses. I wouldn't leave the muffler hanging by the plastic strips for too long. The heat and vibration will knock them out in no time.

Would you share with me how you got the black trim from around the windows, without messing up the paint? It would be highly appreciated. I like the look, and the trim on my car is all cracked.

          Thanks

          Larue.

I used a plastic scraper and a heat gun. You have to watch the gun very carefully, and scrape gently so you don't melt the paint or scratch it. Keep the heat gun moving and move it from one section to another so the first section has a chance to cool a bit. There was residue left over after the general scraping. I used 3M adhesive remover to clean that up.
