CD Changer installation 900

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a CD changer for my 1994 Volvo 960 station wagon and I'm currently facing a problem with the installation.

I've found the DIN audio cable running on top of the rear passenger side wheel well but I just can't seem to find the power cable.
I've heard that some people use the power antenna cables to power up the cd changer... but the problem is that I don't have a power antenna.

The wires coming out of the CD changer are green and black and meet at a black plastic connector. Where can I find the connector's friend?

Patrick,

    hello
i seem em in the 960 wagon in pass side rear cubby. there should/may be a power connector in there somewhere.
the sedans cd players tie into antenna with a little piggyback factory wire harness but could be spliced in no problem.
im guessing your antenna is built into the window on drivers side?
all you need is a small +12 wire from somewhere to power up the cd player.
    good luck
    Mike

    Hi -

The CD changer in my 1997 965 is in the right side storage compartment in the cargo area. It was there when I got the car at 128K, and is a Volvo brand and probably a factor install.

There isn't much in there by way of power or other wiring. It all goes to the left side.

If I can learn more about mine, I'll put in another post.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

There should be a power connector back there somewhere. Check the left fender well where the other power feeds for the fuel sender and antenna come in. I simply don't recall where mine were and both cars with the CD changers are on the East Coast.

Everywhere I look up this info people seem to have their cd changers on the driver's side of the car but my DIN cable is on the passenger side for some reason.
Thanks for the info, I'll look into it tonight.

Okay, so I looked further into the electricals of the trunk of my car and noticed a blue and black wire running from front to back.

        YES!
        However...

The previous owner of my car hooked up a brake/reverse/turn signal system for hauling trailers so the two wires I found led to this massive plug along with these other ones that came from the rear car lights.

So I took apart the plug to isolate the two wires running from the front
and hooked up my multimeter like a good person should :)

When the key was in position I of the ignition (accessory), I'd get
nothing, and at II I'd get 11.38v, YES!
And when I put the light switch to a position in between OFF and daytime running
lights so that all the lights would be off, I still got a steady 11.38 volts.

Here's my problem... whenever I hit the brakes I hear a hum or beep from my car speakers. The reason I say hum or beep is because when I adjust a slider on
the box going to the trailer light plug, it goes from bip bip bip bip bip to a steady beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. These noises aren't loud at all, but I do notice them
        whenever I hit the brakes.

The CD changer works just fine and so does the radio, is this problem just a hindrance or should I be worried about it?

And another thing! The trailer light switch box was set to "OFF" and when I put it to "ON" I still heard the bip bip bip when hitting the brakes.
