U-joints 200 1982

Having a pretty rough vibration in the drive train in 3rd, 4th, and overdrive, suspect U-joints. Called for parts, was asked for the diameter of the drive shaft. Been a long time since I was under there, forgot that the d/s is split. Front half is 1.75" diameter, rear is 2". Parts man is not sure, neither am I. Can someone tell/enlighten me to what size(s) U-joints I need to purchase? Can't find my manual, either. Rats.

Thanks in advance!

Fletch

The front and center may be the smaller 45mm and the rear the larger 50mm. You may need to replace the center rubber support and spring. You can also opt for zerk fittings.

I assume this is for your '82?

    From the Greenbook

"As a general rule, all 4 cyl. models except station wagons are equipped with the lighter propeller shaft 1140 with 44. 5 mm (1.753") ø tubular shaft."

"All station wagon and 6 cyl. models are equipped with the heavy-duty type propeller shaft 1310 with 50.8 mm (2.002") ø tubular shaft."

This is from early on, apparently, because I know they used the larger diameter shaft on sedans at some point.

The 44.5mm shaft is not split so you are dealing with the 50.8mm.

All three u-joints are the same on this driveshaft. Original Volvo p/n is 231311-0. This is the largest of the three u joints available for the 240. Should measure right at 3 1/8" across, with the caps on.
