Neoprene Front Seal 120-130

I'm looking for the front seal (non-felt) and I can't seem to find it. None of the local parts stores carry the item. Does anyone know if a B21 Front Crank Seal will fit the B20 timing cover? I guess I could just buy one from NAPA and compare it with the one I took out. This is the only piece I need and I will essentially be done with my rebuild. Thanks in advance.

Tim

KE,

Although George is a good friend - no other affiliation, etc. But I used one of Georges modified timing covers and it worked perfectly!

Neoprene Front Seal 120-130

My updated timing covers use the B30 front seal, Volvo p/n 1276424.
There is NO neoprene front seal that will fit an unmodified timing cover.

If you are saying you have an already machined (necessary to fit the upgraded seal) timing cover you will not find listings for the B18/20. The seal used is the same as for a B21/23/230. -- Dave

Hello,

There is an exception and that is if the timing cover was modified by IPD "a long time ago".

IPD used to sell an updated timing cover that used a unique seal.

But IPD stopped doing that and starting selling an updated front timing cover for the B18/B20 that uses the same front seal as the B30/B21/B23/B230 engines.

Way back when IPD used their special seal, we decided to modify our front timing covers so that the standard seal would be used and that is all we have ever sold.

Interesting. So I went to NAPA yesterday to get me a b21 timing seal. Bought it, and of course it doesn't fit. It is about 2mm to large. I'm starting to think I have one of those special seals. When I took the engine apart, it already had an updated timing seal. It wasn't using the felt seals so I assumed that the timing cover had already been modified. I guess the next step is to go to NAPA yet again with the old seal (mangled from taking it out) and try to see if they have anything like it

Neoprene Front Seal 120-130

Hello,

Some seal manufacturers have either a part number and sometimes the seal dimensions on the seal.

I have seen the dimensions cast into the neoprene on the outer edge of the seal.

If you can't find the seal that fits your cover, you can have your cover machined to fit the Napa seal.

I was going to mention the IPD seal exchange. I had the builder cut my existing cover to install the neoprene seal. Nice to have dry engine.
