Starla VS OEM Exhaust Replacement 700 1992

Hello, I have a 1992 740 turbo wagon. I have found the that I need to replace the exhaust system. I wonder if I would be better off with the Starla system or the Volvo symstem. Any wisdom on this would be great. Thanks, Nick.

Even with shipping, the OEM kit from Tasca Volvo is CHEAPER than the Starla kits! There is absolutely no point in paying more $$ for a markedly inferior quality product.

FYI, Tasca (like the rest of the Eastern Seaboard) is presently recovering from the effects of Hurricane Irene, so I would hold off on any orders for several days while they get back up and running.

EDIT: I see now you are in Pacific NW. Seem to recall there's a dealer down in CA who offers discount prices on internet orders just like Tasca does. Perhaps someone will chime in with the name?

Had a starla system that lasted a little over a year. Have an oem system going on 4 yrs. Oem has a lifetime warranty if purchased from dealer.

Unfortunately, in the Kansas City area at least, that lifetime is limited to one free replacement. Our two 740s used OEM for two years each, total for four years each.

Now I'm trying another source.

The dealers in Canada had the lifetime warrenty now it is 1 year. I bought one under the lifetime deal but with no supporting paper so I'm not holding my breath about getting a replacement. But it has lasted longer than Bosul, Starla, Walker etc.

The OEM systems use welds at the joints--in stub to mufflers/mufflers to out stub. All the aftermarket systems I've seen have pinch joints. It makes a difference. For what you get I don't think you can beat the value of an OEM kit. -- Dave

I get used ones at PnP; I myself have never had a Volvo muffler go bad, but I bought one car that needed one so I got a PnP system cat back complete for $25, and I expect it to last at least 6 years here in no rust CA.
