M41 J Type 120-130

Last week I was at a farm and saw at the side of a barn a 1975 240,,, the farmer told me that it had a M41 w/Jtype overdrive,,,and offered it to me,, (a rock went through the grill hit the radiator,, small leak ,, drastic overheat and goodbye motor)about 20 years ago he parked it,,,other than changing cable bell housing to my hydraulic, tunnel mods and new driveshaft is there any other concerns on this adaptation,,,I even prefer the shifter that will be farther away from lower dashboard because this winter I have an AC instalation project and with the evaporator I understand that I will have to bend the long shifter that I have now.....also,, the knob on this one has the OD button...any opinion will be appreciated,,thanks,

It is possible that it could have a M46, which is desirable to be sure, but if it does, your bellhousing won't work without modification (hydraulic clutch stuff)

But, either way, take it. You'd easily find someone to trade.

Short shifter will necessitate significant transmission tunnel work to accomodate the linkage, but it's been done many times and really isn't a big deal.

pretty sure this tranny just bolts to your bell housing so no mods needed for clutch actuation. That is what I did anyhow ( pretty sure I have the same tranny, came from a 75 with a B20) . I would get the block and associated bits as well, that is a good old block for a rebuild....easier to pull the whole thing at once anyhow, get the drive shaft as well with it's support bearing housing etc..

Although most people don't like the K-jet and 8-bolt crank, this is an eminently usable engine and has some features that make it pretty desirable.
It is almost impossible to seriously damage a B20 by overheating.
It also has electronic ignition that is adaptable to any other B18 or B20.
If it were me I'd try to get the tranny and the engine and the fuel pump (it's in back).

¡Echa pa'lante!

Hello,

Most likely a good usable transmission.

But after sitting for 20 years, I can almost guarantee you that the overdrive will need some attention.

If you do go with the short shifter handle, I can help you some tips.
