Mirror glass came un-glued from backing, what to use to glue it back 1991 240? 200

My 240 is a Florida car, now in Ohio. So, it was baked in the florida sun for 18 years of it's 20 year life. The car has 0 rust, but the sun has taken it's toll. We are experiencing a Florida like summer here in Ohio, with temps in the high 90's for the last 2-3 weeks, the mirror glass came un-glued. I was pulling the car out of my driveway the other day, and heard something hit the blacktop. It was the glass for the drivers mirror. Amazingly, the glass didn't break.

Can I just use RTV to re-glue it back to it's base, or is there some special glue that I have to use?

    Hi,

I have used Automotive Goop brand glue on headlights, a taillight and a window regulator. It seems to hold up pretty well as none of the above have failed yet.

Try some 3M body tape: dual sided adhesive, very tough stuff.

      3M trim tape 200

I have one to re-glue as well, and that was exactly how I planned to do it. That tape works well for other stick-on things on the outside of the car.

Interesting this just happen to my 91 as well. It also is from Florida, What's the chances of that being the same reason... Anyway, I was in a pinch and had some cyanoacrylate with me and used it. I think it will take a gorilla to pull it off now.

However I am not sure what the cold winter approaching will do to the adhesive. Hopefully not make it brittle and de-bond. It's on pretty good though.
