I keep a meticulous spreadsheet of all costs associated with our two volvos. **Everything** is included. I do majority of work myself with the the exception of the head service on the 940.

'93 940 - purchased in 2003, 18,000 miles per year average, currently 255k:
Average montly repair costs over the life of the car have been ~$140 / mo.

This is our vacation / long distance traveler so it gets a bit more TLC.
This includes 2 sets of snow tires, 2 sets of summer tires, head service (@shop), 2 cat back exhausts, etc....



'90 240 - purchased in 2006, 11,000 miles per year average, currently 272k:
Average monthly repair costs over the life of the car have been ~$55 / mo.

How do these number compare to what you all spend. The expenses for the 940 seem high. But better than a car payment I guess. I've heard the rule of thumb is to budget $100/mo for maintenance.
