240 Driver Seat Height Adjustment 200 1993

Hi,

Got a line on a 93 sedan. Seems like front seat height is adjusted by a lever, my old 82 had a manual adjustment with screwdriver I think. Anyway, I could not figure out how to adjust and owner did not know. Does the seat simply move up and down or does the cushion tilt one way or another. It seemed to be tilted back, will need to level for smaller daughter to drive. Thanks. Mike

240 Driver Seat Height Adjustment, right side too? 200 1993

The part of the seat mounting that allows for the up-and-down of the front and rear of the seat cushion can be fitted to the passenger side,

Find a rack in a junk yard or where ever you can. If you get a junk yard one, be sure to get ALL the parts, especially the four plastic parts that the adjuster pins move up and down in. Change the seat back tilt to fully front. Remove the four bolts holding the your seat in the car and remove the seat.

When the seat is sitting on the ground, "Open" the seat back tilt to about halfway, turn the seat upside down with the headrest on the ground and the seat bottom on the front fender. Set the headrest on the ground, rest the seat pad on a front fender. Adjust the seat back tilt to improve stability.

It's a good idea to put something on the ground where the head rest sits to protect the rest from any damage. Also, a couple layers of old newspaper on the fender, too.

Look carefully at the way the adjusting rack is held to the seat frame. The left side adjusting rack will bolt in where the original rack was. The only problem (for me) was that the direction to pull the levers to allow adjustment will not change. So - instead of pulling the lever you must push it.

All our 240's got this "Up grade", allowing for a seat position change (front at highest setting) for the resting driver (when on a on a trip of 500 miles or more). Makes it better for the off driver to snooze without fear of gradually sliding under the dash board. NO we did not change the adjustment with the car in motion.

Good Luck,

Bob (Near Houston, TX)

:>)

PS I may have a rack in my garage, dunno for sure.

As others have already explained how the seat works I just wanted to add that your '82 would have adjusted the same way. The passenger seat is also adjustable but instead of levers front and rear there are bolts at each corner on the seat frame corresponding to the pins on the driver's seat. -- Dave

There are three positions, adjusted by a lever under the seat. I think the lever pulls to the passenger side; try putting just a little upward or downward pressure on the seat, because the lever controls a pin that goes into a hole and might be stuck a bit. Then try pulling the lever to see which position is the best.

Also note that there are in fact TWO levers, one for adjusting the height of the front end and one for the back end. Three possible positions on each.

Be careful when adjusting that the pin is lined up with the hole before releasing the lever. The spring is stronger than the rod driving the pin, and the rod will bend if the pin binds up. For this reason it is best to adjust the seat while kneeling next to it, not while sitting in it.

I could be wrong, but I believe you'll find the "how to" instructions in any 240 owner's manual
