I am in the process of changing the windshield on my 86 to the 1991- version.The new w/s from Volvo does not include the moulding for the installation. The Volvo parts guy has been very helpful, but both he and I are unsure what else we need to complete the installation.We think the part called cover moulding, part nbr. 3540053, is what we need. Do we need anything else?Do we need the butyl tape, or will the w/s installation guy have that? Also with the 1991- installation, the chrome trim goes??? Thanks in advance for your helpl

for volvo windshields, the new rubber trim is a separate item. in other words, the volvo windshield has 2 pieces: the windshield and rubber trim.

for aftermarket and oem (pilkington) windshields, the rubber trim is included and attached to the windshield. it fits in as one piece.

the installers should have the adhesive to apply. the adhesive goes on the car, not the windshield, if i recall correctly.

the metal trim and rubber trim from the old windshield are not needed from now on.

ask for pilkington windshields, oem. they are a more expensive, but avoid and ask not to have a chinese-made windshield. i've seen cheap chinese-made windshields crack easily, although they are suppose to meet minimum gov't requirements.

Byron, thanks so much for your response.Upon examining the new windshield today, I find the part number is for a -1990 car. The 1991- is a different part number. It is a Pilkington windshield however. I'm wondering whether the only difference between the two is that the 1991- version has the seal already attached. I have the correct seal for the 1991- windshield. Perhaps a trip back to the Volvo dealer will be required???

put the part number(s) in and take a look down the parts list. the list will give dates and part number in addition to other information.

check and compare.

art is correct, butyl or urethane. my pilkington windshield had urethane as the sealant.

This Pilkington model comes with the rubber trim attached. But to be clear (ouch) the rubber trim is not in any way a seal. The seal is the butyl rubber or urethane adhesive in which the glass is bedded.
