J type overdrive dashpot... 200

Hello,
I am rebuilding my J-Type but as i removed the dashpot piston assy, sleeve and the reliev valve and set them aside in order on the bench, i was distracted by my dog and knocked them off scattering the parts. I did recover all of them but need help in getting them back together in the proper sequence. The official volvo diagram doesnt have enough detail. Does anyone have a picture or diagram with detail of the exact location of the main spring and residual spring, piston and especially those packing washers?

Thanks
M

I need an e-mail address to send you a diagram.

Since you are not a member, I cannot send you anything through the site.

Also, your posts are not included in any disemination of posts by the board's digest.

I'll check back tommorrow for your address.

          Thanks Duane,
Mine looks like diagram #3 on the right of your picture but it has one fairly thick shim [washer] and 4 or so more very very thin [like thousandths stock] washers too. Have you seen this in other jtypes and if so do they just stack together on the lower stem of the valve like in the arrow on diagram #3?

            Multiple washers for different applications.

The thicker the total shims, the higher the pressure.

That OD probaboy wasout of a Turbo.

Don not leave shims out if they were there in the first place.

Spings get softer with age and pressures drop accordingly.

            Duane

If you don't get the answer soon, try reposting with heading "OD Guru Please Help" or something like that. This may get the attention of Duane Hoberg, the resident expert...his username says it all.

Not sure what you consider the "official Volvo diagram," but have a look at

    http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/200-series/

    or, specifically,

    http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbooks/TP30058-3_overdrive.pdf

    page 10/11.

Bulletproof. thanks for that--What i was looking at before was the official Volvo copy of a microfiche exploded diagram.

This is helpful but if one looks at page 10, I have the relief valve noted in number 3 and the shim as arrowed but an additional 4 very thin packing washers--I think they were located in the bottom of the dashpot piston but not absolutely sure.

      Thanks
      M
