installing cruise control kit 200 1993

I have a kit with all parts and instructions. Would like to avoid spending the money and time having a local mechanic install it (everyone points me towards this speedometer expert who is not speedy.) My man is generally good with fix-it stuff but his car repairs tend to have more to do with welding (hah.)

How easy/hard is this install for someone who has never done something like this? How long should we expect it to take? Any known pitfalls to watch for?

Cautionary note: the guys below are correct only if this is a Volvo kit from the dealer or is specifically designed for your car.

If it is a generic aftermarket kit intended to fit many different cars it will take longer than a couple of hours, and require splicing the kit to the right wires in your car, adapting the throttle assemblies and other stuff. I have done this, so I know. The good news is it's still working fine 27years later.

So which is it, and if it is aftermarket, we can offer more suggestions.

It is very easy, your car is pre-wired for the cruise. You can pretty much install the pieces in designated spots that are all set up for them. The vacuum pump goes in the engine bay up on the firewall (see the screws in place there, then find its wire harness connector hidden nearby in the front left fender well. Plug in, run the vacuum line through the firewall. Move inside, install the pedal switch(s), the rubber bellow and the control brain, again finding the hidden harness plug for that connection. Swapping the cruise stalk is also required. You can email me for some better instructions and info.

Hi guys, so we finally got around to this install - instructions from the seller (guy named Brian in Maryland) are pretty decent and we got through the first few steps OK. My car does indeed have the necessary wiring and hardware and the parts appear to be pulled from the same car - not all have manufacturer but at least one (the control box) is clearly Volvo.

So the problem is installing the delete switch on the brake pedal. Brian instructs to "insert the delete switch into the bracket, and install the clip." Well - simply "inserting" it doesn't get it all the way through the bracket. The plastic's diameter is just a little too big. We were tempted to shave/file it down a little but it seemed risky to do so without seeking more expert advice first. I did also write to Brian but it seems like you guys have some good experience and had a feeling you might be an even better resource.

Thanks in advance,
Jen

rhaire is correct. It's plug and play. Their is also a conduit provided for the vacuum line hidden in the wheel well close to the drivers side door. It has a little rubber cap that looks like a dunce cap. Don't through that away. Snip a small hole in it and then fish the vacuum line through to the passenger compartment. It comes out just above the fuse panel. Put the dunce cap back on the prevent any water from migrating through to the fuse panel.

I'm not sure but I think I purchased my cruse control setup from rhaire. I know it came from Fl.

Works fine, no problem,

Ron J

A very easy install. Couple of hours at most.
