has anyone ever thought of...

converting their gasoline volvo to a diesel?
i love the redblocks, but my buddy has a jetta TDI that he converted to run on veggie oil. we took it up to maine (8.5 hours up, 7 hours back, and some in between), used 20 gallons of free veggie oil and less than 1/4 of a tank of diesel fuel. the car has close to 250K on it and it drives like a dream; i don't think there is a single problem with it.
so has anyone ever thought of, or actually done, a conversion to diesel (engine swap and all the rest) on a brick? i think it would be pretty awesome to have my 780 coupe running on veggie oil in the not-so-distant-but-still-somewhat-distant future.

Hearsay has it that there's a shop in Seattle that will put a TDI in your volvo and you need a diesel bell housing for a mere $15,000.
If you're interested I'll inquire for further details.

Man, you really have it in for the Gman don't you? I've been on the receiving end of his somewhat acerbic posts a time or two, but I just try to ignore it.

Anyway, in fairness you could be a little more clear about what information you're trying to get here. You just asked if anyone has thought about or actually converted their gasoline 240 to diesel.

Yes. I've thought about it. No. I haven't done it. Anyone else thought about it or done it?

I also think it would be awesome. Hopefully someone who has done it, if anyone has, will post with more than a yes or no answer.

Ribit,

The Volkswagen D24 was offered in the 240 lineup.

The oil pickup was too long and tended to wear the engine out.

sometimes i think that you see certain words in a post, ignore the rest of the words, and take the words you like completely out of context, in an effort to stomp out any intelligent conversation about the idea proposed.
in short, you'd make it far in american politics, but not in literary comprehension.
i was not asking whether or not a 30 year old volvo diesel could be converted to run on veggie oil. i know that it can be. i also know that the volvo 240 diesels were not the most desirable cars (my dad had one). please go back and read what i wrote, think about it (i can't emphasize this point enough), and then respond.

Hi,

I read your post once, and once is enough for me. It wasn’t intellectually stimulating enough for me to say more then a few sentences. D24 engines sucked, that’s what I know. I’m not really charged to inductively generalize about installing other diesel engines into Volvo 240s.

If you don’t like my opinion, that’s fine with me. But remember, you asked for it.
