For few yrs now maybe once per year but more frequently recently like once per 2 months
starts ignition,
car starts but later on while driving noticed radio,and wipers,horn does not work.
Turn off ignition at traffic lights ,restarts car, then above all powers on okay.Car driving all okay whether radio can be turned on or not!

What is the likely culprit?


Seems to happen more on a hot day?


Got spare ebay bought ecu for Regina(like mine)

I'd bet that the piggy back red wire at the battery neg terminal is loose and/or
has a crappy terminal (Corroded at the crimp and resistive) If the piggy back wire
is off, you also lose battery charging, does your battery stay charged?
The ignition switch is in series with this stuff as the other guy posted

Also service your battery cable ends. look at where the cables are crimped on the terminal ends. Those connections can get bad. There's a pair of neg cables to the frame. take that stuff off wire brush it, grease it with neverseez and bolt it up. service the grounds at the intake manifold and firewall. They're critical
for the fuel injection.

will try and clean the red wire as suggested and 2 grounds (one near the battery thinner and one at back of alternator thicker)
the battery charges ok according to the voltmeter i grafted from another Turbo volvo 740

Have you check the ignition switch? If you turn the key back a bit does the accessory work?

Thanks.Will try to lube switch/ where key insert.
Next time it happens ,if my car is stationary will try to jiggle the key and see what happens.

I've had EXACTLY your experience with a worn ignition switch. Sometimes I need to push it in while engaging (turning) the key...a bit of silicone lube every few months has kept it working for a couple years now.
