tempreature reading 1800

Hi, I have a 71 p1800e and would like to know where the temperature gauge needle should be when the the car is warmed up... Mine is shows about 1 o'clock, just to the right of the 2 dots.. Should it be closer to 12 o'clock position, am I running a little to warm? The thermostat I'm using is a 180 degree.

Thanks Bob

They vary a lot depending on several different things.
You should get a real thermometer and check the water temp with the engine warmed up and
    base your judgement on that.

    Hello,

Ideally it should be in between the 2 dots.

However, with age, the sensor, the wiring, the gauge and sometimes the voltage stabilizer can cause inaccuracy.

To verify the accuracy, you can replace the sensor with a high quality mechanical gauge or use a high quality non contact thermometer.

Are you using the correct style of thermostat?

Thanks for getting back, I will try your suggestions and see what the actual temperature is.. I had removed the thermostat and the car ran cold all the time.. I put a new 180 degree one in that looked like it would allow move water flow and it seemed to run a little cooler but not between the dots.. I might try a 170 degree thermostat next time..

      thanks again Bob

        Hello,

You should not run a thermostat with a fully opened temperature of less than 80°C if you are using fuel injection.
