No, I have not had any experience with a broken pedal or the brace/bracket under the steering column.
I had a problem on just my ’91 with the clutch cable not staying adjusted over a few months use. I deduced that several things could be going on.
The nut that you turn to push the cable housing out towards the pedal could rotate around inside the transmission-housing bracket and thus losing adjustment.
Alternatively, the outer housing of the clutch cable can slip inside the nut or the internal friction against the spiral helix causing the housing to rotate, in a fixed nut, while the cable itself is flexing under the pressure releases, as you use the pedal. Both of the scenarios could happen simultaneously or independently at times. The addition of the collar stops the movement rearward but allows the housing to seek its own happiness.
The fork arm, that actually pushes the throw out bearing, is very robust for the job it has to do. I will say that anything is possible, given time, the lack of maintenance or abuse.
I can imagine a throw out bearing sticking/dragging on the input shaft and being hard to push. If the bearing itself locked up, it could score the fork thinner where it rides in front of the fork. Hard to imagine this could happen because the noise would be a wake up call every time you stepped on it though.
Many years ago when my '78 was just a couple years old, my wife had the lovely experience (panic) of having a spring fall out of the clutch disc and jamming itself between the disc and the pressure plates, steel fingers
.
When I got to her and the car, I determined that things were not right.
The pedal was hard to push down. I could have put excessive strain on the fork arm but I was not an idiot to stand on it that hard. I just drove the car home for her without using the clutch to shift. I just had to start the car in gear once and timed the couple of lights home. I also, holly-wooded some stop signs so I did not have to stop completely. I just let up on the gas some to remove torque from the gears when I had to shift. I think the car had about 30k on it then and now it is approaching the 300k mark.
I selectively abuse my cars, when needed!
