Pulling the Motor - tools, hints, tricks ? 900 1993

I was ready to pull off the head in my 965 but then I thought I would pull the whole thing out. I've heard it's easier to pull with trans, so I plan on doing that.

What can you tell me about pulling the whole lot out? How long will it take? Can you tell me if I need to move any of the fuel or trans lines to do this?

Thanks. I plan to do this once I assemble all tools and courage.

I have done this once, I separated the trans first, but there are a couple of users here that have done this many times and they always suggest pulling trans and engine as one unit.

I also wonder about removing the head while it is in the car, removing those head bolts were a bear, having the engine solid to something other than an engine stand can only be helpful.

Dan, very true on the head bolts and getting leverage. I had not thought of that. This engine runs beautifully but leaks like crazy

However, I would probably not remove the head if I remove the lot altogether - just replace the cam seals and rear main seal.

I have another 960 (actually, two others) that I would consider dropping this engine into.
