Are suspension rubber bushes worn out when age cracked around edge or only if they have slop? 200 1979

My 32 year old 244 at 551,0000km (334,000 miles) is squeaking from the chassis so I took it to a shop and the guy said some suspension rubber bushes have only "age cracks" around the edge so they are OK. Others have no age cracks. He said that bushes are replaced only when there is so much rubber worn off them that they have slop that is easily seen. Mine did not have slop. Which is correct?

Can Volvo OEM suspension bushes last for 32 years and 334,000 miles?

Front control arm, front trailing arm and track rod bushings can and usually do last that long. Rear trailing arm, torque rod and rear control arm bushings are most likely all worn and need replacing. Sometimes with the control arm bushings the rubber separates from the crush tube and squeaks.

    Hi,

The bushings may be physically intact, but be hard as a rock and not really be doing a great job buffeting impacts.

Only use Volvo bushings in the blue bag.
