i have a 98 v90- and need to work on the seat
bottom drivers side don't want sips blowing off
what the procedure disengage the system i assume that
the seat must be removed from the vehicle

as far as i know you must disconnect the battery and wait a period of time like an hour. be sure to have the radio code available to have it working afterwards, assuming that your radio is OE. removing the seal depends on what repair you are doing. there is a bolt-headed stud sticking downward from each track rail. it fits into a key-hole shaped hole in the floor so removing the seats requires that the seat be slid forward (or backward, i forget) and then lifting it out. have a helper, it's a heavy seat.

typing is so easy when skipping the use of caps and commas.

i plan to add foam to the seat bottom center where the pleated area
is removing the seat skin where its flatten out i assume in your reply
you mean seat and not seal from what i can see the air bag is in the
back of the seat and not the bottom so i won't be interfering with the
sips system anyway yes i have the code on the radio

The side air bag on the seat is purely mechanically operated. It is not connected to any thing electrical. To make it safe, you remove the small cover on the outside side panel of the seat where the seat controls are. This cover also hides the end of the seatbelt where it is attached to the seat. When you remove the cover, you should find a red/orange piece of plastic clipped to the inside of the cover. Remove this piece and slide it over the round metallic cap near the seat belt anchor; it will be obvious how it fits once you see it. This protects the detonator for the air bag. That said, you should still be very careful while working on the seat. Hope this helps.

i have already found the seat belt cover your speaking of and orange plastic part
with a warning label and that's when i stopped going any farther ,
i understand there is still a danger is this detonated by impact ?
i just want to remove the seat bottom add some more padding and check
the seat heater i have done quit a lot of upholstery work but usually on
older cars with out the safety features thanks for the information

Rich, yes it is detonated by impact, but it is my understanding the metal cap on the detonator has to be pierced to go off. Just moving the seat around would not cause it to go off. I removed both seats from two cars to exchange seats and removed the motor assembly for the power seats on all four without any problems. Still, you should exercise caution if you intend to go ahead with your project.
