Spring Has Almost Sprung 140-160 1971

With the mercury reaching nearly 75 in NYC I decided to put a battery in the '71 142E for the hell of it and see what would happen. The car hasn't moved since last July. On the first crank, almost immediately, the car started up as if nothing. Wound up driving around the neighborhood a bit and put her back in the driveway. Point is that the car started like absolutely nothing. Gotta get her back on the road for the summer.

My 142 has been my daily driver for a year. I'm glad to see that the model is getting some respect -- everyone seems to fall all over themselves for the 122. But imho the 142 is a better car.

Nice! How cool would that be, driving around NYC in a classic 142. But its nice to hear that some of us are starting to resurrect this model. At one time, they were all being stripped and parts used to restore 122s. As a matter of fact, there are more 122s than 140's running around in my part of the world.

Make sure you keep fuel stabelizer in your tank so it will keep on starting. That is one thing good about the D-jet, they start so easily after not running a while.

Nice! I actually got my '74 142 running today and drove it around the block for the first time ever, as I bought it non-running not quite a year ago. Needless to say, this was a big event. Now I just need to bleed the brakes, work on the wheel bearings, swap on my other set of wheels/tires and call it roadworthy...

Thanks go out to George for the parts a long time ago! I think the rebuilt fuel distributor was the big piece, but I also swapped in much better condition injectors (all five).

Great! Put the battery back in it and drive some more!
