Distributor and timing cover interference 200

I am beginning to think that at some point I put the rear timing cover from another Volvo on my B230. My distributor electrical connector hits the timing cover at mid point, and I'm wondering if I did not get the cover mixed up with one from an engine that used a head mounted distributor. My inner cover does not have a relief for the connector molded in. Is that something that anyone else has had a problem with, or did I screw it up?

    Distributor positioning? 200 1985

Look at the location of the lock-down bolt in its curved slot.

If the bolt isn't close to being centered in the slot, the distributor may have been over-rotated (CCW) to compensate for a mis-timed belt.
    I've done it myself.

I think you will find that for the B230F the timing covers are all the same regardless of vertical or horizontal distributor.

I have 240s - 78, 83, 85, 88, 89. I'll look at them for a "dent" in lower timing belt cover to accomodate dist elec terminal.
    I also have 740s - 87 & 90 with rear mount dizzys.
I'll get back to you Friday. What yr is yours? My recollection for several is that elec term on dist faces rearward.

    Steve

Mine is a 1985 N/A BF230. I've owned it since new, so I know for a fact that the connector has always faced front. I think that when I was replacing the timing belt, I may have gotten the cover mixed up with one from another engine. I can always use a die grinder and relieve the cover, I'm just wondering if I screwed up.

I looked at mine, all fit easy, not even close.
Check whatever covers you have scattered around. Pity to grind away at one which belongs in another car.

This is the only one that I have. We are in Tennessee until around Labor Day when we will go back to Florida, but there are no parts there either. Its gonna be this one, or find another one.
