Odd question about Volvo 240 History. 200

Hi All,

Silly question, and my Google-fu isn't producing the exact answer for me about this. Did they ever make a awd 240? I have read rumblings on the internet that it existed once in Europe but haven't been able to find any conclusive information. Anyone here know if this is a truth or not?

Thanks
J

That's a great pic.I saw a 740 turbo in the parking lot of a Home Depot with that same setup.I live in New York so maybe that redneck was little lost.

I have been to Olean New York Outside Buffalo. Trust me, New York has Nascar loving folks with dead cars outside of the trailer under the snow. Sure looked like red necks to me anyway.

They just ran snow mobiles instead of air boats and rock crawlers.

Regards,

Paul

I like it. What shall we call it, a Hummbrick? a 2404 ? a 240y'all wheel drive? Tall folks won't bump their heads on the tailgate. Old folks don't have to bend over to load the rear -as you get older you start to appreciate that.

Odd question about Volvo 240 History. 200

Hey!
No AWDs. I don't know Volvo history that well but I lived in Sweden for 30 years with my grandfather and my uncle working for Volvo and I'm sure I would have heard about AWD 240 if there was any.

Thank you sir for the reply, and that is a shame. Looking through the mods that people do to these cars, i had just wondered if anything with awd was possible.

Anything is possible with enough money, time and fabrication skill. If you're asking if there is a bolt-on solution, the answer is an emphatic "NO!".

Odd question about Volvo 240 History. 200

There was a funny 'troll the n00bs' thread over on TB that ran with the pun for a while.

"The X is for AWD, like BMW's 3251X!"

It's not going to be easy getting the front wheels to spin on a 240 because the engine's oilpan is about where a front diff would need to be. So you either put the front axle way below that in 4X4 configuration, or you'll have to be very good at integrating the front drivetrain with the engine. Whihc in practical terms, probably means utilizing some other motor and trans that was built for that purpose. Like a BMW 325ix drivetrain and front crossmember (one of the driveshafts goes through the oilpan IIRC). But when you get down to it, instead of gutting the 325iX and spending a huge amount of time grafting that into a 240 shell (probably needs a lot of floorboard sheetmetal work), I'd probably just rather drive the 325iX. They're pretty nice cars to begin with.
