Art Benstein, heater motor help 200 1989

So I did the heater motor and airflow is now kinda wimpy. It works, which is great, but it kinda just trickles out. Points to note: pre heat hose and box thermostat are not done yet, and there was a small hole where the power wires on the blower motor go through that may/may not have been tightly sealed. But I really think the problem lies with the duct plumbing. Possible it's not entirely sealed... Another question, is how would you seal that plumbing? There were staples all rusty, on some of the connections by the vents going to the front defrost. Should those be restapled? Or sealed w/ some sort of tape.
I have a feeling the worst of the job is done already, just going back and checking connections may or may not be that difficult now.
Thanks again, Bork times three

The problem in fact was probably the little rubber boot that goes around the wires to seal the bottom hole of the blower housing. that hole is where the wires for the heater motor go through. I believe when i sealed that more properly, the velocity of air got better. It's hard not to pull that out of it's seat, because the wires that connect it to the aftermarket cheapo resistor harness are too short to begin with and struggling with that made the seal for the housing kind of hindsight. Now i see though, the seal for that is kind of important.

Does the motor change speeds when you turn the speed knob? You may have a resistor problem that affects your fan speed. Do you have all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly? Either one of those will cause what you describe.

If there were air leaks in the ducts, you should be able to find them with your hand.

    Regards,

    Paul

The fan works on all four speeds now. There were some loose wires from a cheapo resistor harness. There is still a bit of proper assembly to be done to the center counsel area. I'll check for leaks and what not then. Thanks

Maybe you're suspicious of that new motor not developing the RRRRRs the old one had. I dunno, but like Dan, I'd go with checking those flaps (love that little vacuum tester) especially the recirc door. Hope you don't have a blocked evap or heater core - but then you wouldn't notice the change.

Hey I have another to change (90) maybe this weekend if I can get the snow cleaned up.

A famous Viking explorer returned home from a voyage and found his name missing from the town register. His wife insisted on complaining to the local civic official who apologized profusely saying, "I must have taken Leif off my census."
