Brakes 120-130

My 1967 Volvo 122S 4dr. is in need of brakes and needs new rotors, calipers, wheels cylinders and drums. Skandix sells the rotors and drums without the hubs for 60-65% less than with the hubs. How difficult is it to have the old hubs pressed out of the drums and rotor and have them pressed into the new parts ? Has anyone done this ?

I was once told be someone that the rear drums on a 122 were the same as the ones used on a Rambler. He was too old to remember which one specifically , but said the difference between Volvos price and Ramblers price was dramatic. I searched Rockauto and found part # 122.63001. This is for a 9 inch rear drum to a 1965 American Motors Classic model with a 6 cyl. engine. The drum sells for 30 dollars. I am thinking about trying it out when needed. You may want to try it out too. The price is right for a new drum. The dimensions shown on the site look correct.

I went to the Rock Auto site and found the drum in question for the Rambler. Indeed it is $29+ and if you click on "more info" a nice drawing of the drum-both front and thru side views-comes up, along with a number of dimensions that can be use to compare this drum to our existing drums. Takes out a lot of guess work.

I think it will require separating the center part of the old drum to use with new studs on the new drum.

got the drums from rock auto and they are identical to 122 drums except the center hole on the 122 drums is very large. So must machine the center hole larger separate the hub/drum by cutting the studs then reassemble.

Please let us know how that all works out. The price difference certainly is dramatic.

Front rotors are not a big deal. I haven't done the drums. I wouldn't think they
would be too hard either, though.

The drums we tried were spot-welded in place. Made a mess of the drum although it's the hub that one needs to be worried about if you're replacing the drum. It takes a little determination to separate the drum from the hub...

Possible to have them "machined-off" at a machine shop? Quick job if all you want to retain is the hub and are not worried about losing the drum or disc.

Probably fairly expensive.
I've never seen them spot-welded together. What usually holds them together is the lug bolts.
They are knurled and pressed in from the inside.
You can also drive them with a hammer.
I have done it (on a 145) with a lug nut but both the bolt and the nut have to have
very good threads and a couple greased washers between the flat side of the nut and the
disk flange surface. Otherwise you will strip the threads.
