Better to have loved and lost... 200

Had a bad run in with a patch of ice last week. The car lived up to its reputation of protecting the driver. At just under 307k miles she was running strong with many more miles to go. I was not injured but was definitely heartbroken as I put a lot into taking care of her. Fate, however, had other plans.

Happy New Year.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. The photo shows your 240 really "took one for the family". If it's any consolation, it can continue to keep many more 240's on the road as a parts "donor".

Sorry to see another great 240 bite the dust, but happy to hear that you were well protected and not injured. I don't know what you hit or how hard you hit it, but the damage seems well controlled outside of the passenger compartment. Find another love. It will be easy to fall again. :)

After coming down a hill and around a curve, I hit a long patch of ice. I was going about 45MPH and did not know the ice was there. However, I was already at an angle and the car got "tail happy". The momentum spun the car and I was going down the road backwards. Recovery was futile at that point.

A large cedar tree put an abrupt end to my shenanigans.

I've had opportunity to say this to a few customers and to folks on this board - the car gave it's life for yours, exactly as it was designed and intended to do. Go forth and buy another.
You get to see another year, and I hope it's happy. Congrats.

I have actually bought another one already. It's a 92 with 170k miles on it and well maintained. The ABS light was on when I bought it, of course it was the fuse beneath the seat. Trunk latch was missing a bolt, (guess where my parts came from!). Actually has a bit more pep than my 93 too.

As far as I am concerned, this is the one and only car to own.

Also, did you notice my 79 in the background? That's a project car that I am working on. It needs a timing belt assembly and I am wondering if the tensioner spring from the 93 will fit it correctly.

Same tensioner, Mr. Monk.

I think anyone who has been driving 240s for a really long time as at least one "this car saved my life" story. I sure do. They are incredible, no question about that.

The 93 will have the round tooth belt, and whether it's tensioner is different I don't know. Might be worth just buying a kit with the belt and the tensioner. I prefer not to use used parts.
I bought a 1979 242DL brand new - great car, red with red interior and a single SU carb (Canadian market car).
As much as I like Volvos, try a Lexus LS400 some day, as the early 90's ones are wonderful.
