ipod connection to CR814 --1993 940T 900

I have a need to connect an ipod to my original alpine CR814 cassette/radio. I really do not care if it cannot be charged through the cable or indeed controlled through the face of the CR814.
I have read numerous post on the subject but have yet to find a simple solution to my dilemma.
I have seen cables sold on amazon which purport to fit the bill, but am reluctant to purchase without more information because many of the historical posts indicate this particular player is difficult to connect with an ipod.
Has anyone any positive experience of one of these cables, which would connect from the CD socket at the back of the CR814 directly to the ipod.
I have added a photo.
cheers

To simply play your ipod through the cr-814 (without trying to charge the ipod or control it from the cr-814) is very easy to accomplish. In fact I have fitted cr-814's into both of my 240's alonf with 6 disk cd changers and I am able to also play an ipod through the unit as you described. They work and sound great!

The way to do it is NOT to use the mbus connector for the cd changer (in my case I wanted to keep it available for attaching the cd changers anyway) - rather, use the connector for an EQ - The cr-814 (and quite a few other volvo radios too) has a jack on the back where an accesory EQ can be added. The jack has a jumper/plug in it when no EQ is attached. the radio sends the pre-amp signals out to the EQ and then they are sent back to the radio to be sent to the external amp and speakers. The plug is just a set of jumpers when no EQ is used. A simple cable that can interrupt the signal from the radio and input the signal from the ipod's headphone jack is all that is needed.

A few years ago my son (then a struggling college physics/electronics student - now about to enter graduate school as a struggling quantum physicist!) figured this out and made up cables for our cars - he made up some extras that I posted in the for sale section here as a plug and play way to add a music player input some time ago- but most folks understandable opt to go with a modern radio. In any case I still have a couple of these cables around and can ship one to you for $15 if you like. In my opinion the cr-814 with a 6 disk changer (which are pretty readily available these days for cheap) and one of these cables really lets you have your cake and eat it too!! -- great sound, original factory look and compatible with a modern ipod/music player (or virtually any any other device with a headphone jack).

Hello, I would be interested in such an item. However, I have the 816 radio. It had an amp socket in the back, not an EQ. Would it fit this?

jim,
have tried to contact you but no luck. Can you give me a shout!

There are a number of proprietry cables for sale on line, but when questioned, the sellers have indicated that whilst they work with the SC series radios; they will not work with the CR.

cheers

Wow, Jim, $15? That's a bargain just for the parts!

Here's an old post where someone looked up the prices.

Jim:

I tried to e-mail you directly but my message keeps bouncing back to me. I would be interested in one of your extra cables. Can you e-mail me at

Thanks!

Hi. Check my other post for information on hooking up an ipod to an Alpine radio:

Hi, I ran mine into the cassette by a cassette adapter with a wire lead that plugs into the headphone socket, cheap fix. Had two lying around from old CD players, which back in the early 90's both Sony and Panasonic gave you with the players. I either lay the iPod on the passenger seat or next to the brake lever on the center console. Works great--better than the 6.00 adapter we got on Ebay.

thanks yankee
the adapter I used got stuck in the player; several hours later I managed to get it out (after dismantling the unit).
Not wanting to risk this again I looked around and found that there is evidence that it is possible to connect an Ipod directly to the cd port at the back of the player. However I have yet to find a wiring diagram which shows what connectors should be made.
The direct connection should provide great sound.
