My daughter's friend lives in Providence and has a '94 940 turbo with 160K that needs attention. She's looking for a fair-priced, competent shop in either of the subject areas above. Here's what she says:
• Gas Gauge doesn't work
• Wiring b/t alternator + battery gets fried every two months or so
• Headlights regularly short out and the right front signal needs to be replaced ( it fell off last week. I retrieved it, but the piece is busted )
• Does not shift into overdrive leading to high revving, high gas mileage
• Antenna motor needs to be replaced and needs a new antenna
• Brakes are beginning to squeak
I'll see what's listed in the "Shops" forum here, but also hope to get some current suggestions with this post.

Bruce....
Stopped to see Chuck at lunch time, and he was working on your friend's 940.
Needs some work...... but he fixed the headlight issue and is waiting for owner's confirmation to replace bad ball joint.
And I resoldered the OD relay after I finished my sandwich. Now it shifts.
But who worked on this before? The T-belt cover is held on by three yellow tie wraps, and not even clipped short! Shoddy.
Happy New Year!

Thanks Don,
I'm not getting any feedback from Sarah's friend Beth, after emailing her last week, with some ideas for her brother to try over the holidays. Also sent a Main headlight relay, since they can fail with time. At least I've seen a couple of bad ones on 240s. I meant to send a spare OD relay but the cupboard was bare. Good to know she has OD now. I think it's been out for a long time.
I believe she got the car in the North Carolina, a year or two ago, and doubt anyone but Midas has touched it.
Glad to hear she connected with one of the good guys. Well, two to be accurate.
Thanks again,
Bruce

Yes, I think the dealer's sticker on the trunk was from down south. It has a "Halifax/Nova Scotia" sticker under hood. It's been around a bit.
I forgot to mention that she went to Chuck with a printout of this BB thread -- so I knew who made which comments.
When I left Chuck's, he was on the phone with her. Seems she wants to drive that puppy to New Mexico. She might consider dropping some money into the car first..... like, maybe, a current inspection sticker, proper registration sticker..... and maybe even some repair stuff, too.
Nice hubcaps, though. [grin]

"It has a "Halifax/Nova Scotia" sticker under hood."
My '93 Regina 940 doesn't have a Halifax sticker, but the data plate code says that's where it was assembled. An early bout with a front brake hose-to-hard line fitting, brought Newfie jokes to mind. Who else would use red loc-tite on the brass coupling, which I discovered when cutting it open, and led to my shameless compression union splice-in on the hard line side?
It's so nicely camo'd by road grime it almost looks stock now. Or is it just that the eye more drawn to that Upstate NY salt complexion?

"...but the data plate code says that's where it was assembled..."
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant there was a decal on the top of the radiator (or thereabouts) from a repair shop in Halifax or Nova Scotia. Something like that. I only glanced it and then focused on the yellow tie wraps securing the T-belt cover.
"...brought Newfie jokes to mind..."
If it's 9:00 here, why is it 10:30 there?
(That's not a joke.)

Yeah, I recognized my words. The only difference is that Chuck now wants an extra hour of sleep..... so he opens at 8 a.m., unless special arrangements.
I think that happened on his 60th b-day....;)

This guy might be retired by now but his reputation is impeccable. Specializes in Volvos. About 5 minutes north of New Bedford. Maybe a half hour max from Providence.

I'd second Chuck. He's a great guy.
Been many many years since I've seen him, but I wouldn't hesitate to use him.

...the 940T belongs to my daughter's friend.
My daughter still has the '93 245.
I'll have to find out if the 940 has FOGs or not.
Will email you when I find out.
May be a sale for you.
