hi all.
the good news is that i got my bertone up to par to get it on the road! oil leak fixed, heater fixed, coolant leak fixed...
the bad news is that today was the first day that my girlfriend was supposed to start driving my old 240, and it gave us trouble.
we're in new england, it's rainy and in the 40s today. started the 240 to go to work this morning, and it got up the long driveway fine, but when she turned to leave the driveway it stalled. battery seemed pretty low when i was cranking it so i jumped it. it cranked for a long time but didn't fire. after about 3 tries i got it to start but it took a while and it sounded weird. let it run for a minute and it stalled when she tried driving it again. any ideas? is this because of the rain? battery/alternator? i do get a squeel sometimes with it, and i know that can either be slipping belts or an alternator on its way out..please help! we need two cars!!

Hi,

What is the fuel level?

fuel is about a 1/4 tank so there is plenty.
here's the update:
tonight after i picked her up from work we went back to her house to see if we couldn't get it back on the road. it started right up, but it sounded pretty rough. i revved the engine a couple times and let it sit for a minute then tried to drive. had my foot planted firmly on the accelerator and the car was getting no power. it was barely moving at all, and then it stalled and wouldn't start again; just cranked. it's rained heavily all day, so i'm going to try it again tomorrow when it's had time to dry out and hope for the best...

update:
got to the car today after it had some time to dry out. started right up. sounded a little rough at first but after it ran for about 30 seconds sounded normal again. i let it warm up for a while and then drove it and it was fine. lately, it'll stall sometimes when coming to a stop but starts right up again. it has a pulsing idle sometimes, other times it revs on its own up to 1100-1300 rpms. sometimes it idles right where it's supposed to. what i'm going to do is clean the throttle body and replace distributor, wires, plugs and rotor, and see what that does for it.

Ribit,

1/4 tank is not plenty. Less then 1/2 will reveal faults with the tank pump hose.

Unplug the AMM connector and start the car. Now how does it run?

alright, i guess i meant plenty for a car that works. never had a problem at a 1/4 tank before.
i won't get to the car until tomorrow night. if it doesn't start up after drying out, i'll disconnect the AMM and hope i can find one for cheap if that's the problem...

Ribit,

Insufficient fuel delivery due to an inoperable tank pump could also cause the problems you are describing.

Be aware.
