Mysterious Coolant loss-89 240 w/ 255,000

Hi, I've been losing coolant for a while now, Last 3,000 miles or so. I don't smell any coming out of the tailpipe, neither can I detect any leaking underneath the car or leaking around the H2o pump, radiator, hoses, transmission lines or the reservoir?
Funny thing is, I can smell it when car has fully warmed up in the motor area-just seeing NOTHING anywhere in the engine area. I'm thinking it's an exterior leak that's immediately burning off as soon as it hits somthing hot, but no vapor is evident-I would think that would be the case if that was happening.
Kinda stumped here ?? Is there a additive I could pour into my reservoir that could be circulated through the block that would help me detect where this leak could be if it were leaking exteriorly or elsewhere? Does anybody have any other theorys to what it could be?

make sure to check around the heater core in the dash, the hose connections and/or the heater core itself could be leaking. I know i didn't notice the coolant smell when the hose connections were leaking. Also make sure check the lines going from the engine bay going into the firewall, they're a bit out of the way and easy to miss.
