help with codes 2-3-1 and 1-1-3 please 200

Hey everyone,

I just replaced my converter and the CEL light up throwing codes 2-3-1 and 1-1-3 - As far as I know, 2-3-1 is "compensating for rich/lean mixture at cruise" and 1-1-3 is EITHER "short term adaptive fuel trim too lean/rich" OR "fault in fuel injectors".

In July I passed a state emissions test AND checked the voltage on my O2 sensor today with a multimeter - Test showed voltage flucuating between .1-.9 volts consistently - I created an vacuum leak and the voltage adapted accordingly, which tells me the 02 sensor is doing its job.

There are really no other major symptoms or drivability issues - Idle is a tad low, but not way out of normal range.

Any recommendations/tests I can do to zero in on this issue?

Many thanks!
Spencer

You may have had a false alarm. The light being on is an emissions thing for the most part. If it stored the codes, it may be more involved or repetitive.

I have had it do that only once with out the codes though. I ended up just resetting it by unplugging the small red wire from the battery to the terminal on the fender for a moment.

We had a cold snap here and I think the 0-2 sensor just did not warm up fast enough or EGR valve was out of specification. It has never come back on. I do not use the full-blown and over priced heated sensor because I have mild weather most of the time.

If it does it again, I would look for an air leak from a cracked vacuum hose or a bellows hole.

With those lousy codes, you have no idea how long it was unhappy, let alone know where. It could have been only for a span of a few milliseconds.

Patience and timeouts, their reserved for the games, we make for ourselves.

Pull fuse 6 for a few seconds to clear the codes, then see if they come back.

If they do check the vac line on the fuel pressure regulator for gas or odor.

Make sure the O2 sensor is plugged in.

Do you get any codes in socket 6 of the OBD module?

    Dan

      Hey Dan,

I did pull fuse 6 when I got the car back from the shop and reset the codes only for it to pop back on the next day - No codes from module 6 and I know the O2 is plugged in when I did my voltage test yesterday.

I'll definitely give the vac lines a good check and give a good cleaning to the ground contacts on the manifold.

I'll give an update when I make some progress.

      Thanks,
      Spencer
