Quit & no start 200 1987

Starts cold, runs for 5 minutes, starts to idle rough then quits. Then the starter will not turn over. Get the faint click like a weak battery. Will clean ground points, but always thought poor grounding improved with heat. What items would fail as the engine warms and would prevent the starter from operating? Does the main relay control the operation of the starter?
