1986 240 manual window will not go up 200

I have a 1986 240 wagon, and the driver's window will not go up. It kind of feels like some gears are stripped, but I have not disassembled the door to assess the problem. The window drops open about one inch, but I can push it back up and it will stay for a while.

I have another 1986 240 wagon, which is not long for this world. The color is different from the one with the window problem, so I don't want to switch doors.

Can the window mechanism be removed from the door, and put on another car?

As noted by BC, it is certainly possible that the gears are stripped:

It may be as simple as some of the window mechanism bolts needing to be tightened, or it may be as pictured above. Time to pull the panel and find out.

1986 240 manual window will not go up, swap? yes 200

Can the window mechanism be removed from the door, and put on another car?

Yes, provided that they are both either hand-crank or power.

Some brickboarders have gotten power windows into a hand-crank car, lotsa wiring work, though.

Best if you remove the trim panel on the non-op door and have a look. Problem could be solved with less than a full swap. If in doubt, pull the panel on the good door and compare.

Good Luck,Bob
