240 shudders when decelerating between 25 and 5 mph 200

My 91 240 with 223k miles on the clock shudders while decelerating from about 25 mph to about 5 mph.

I thought it was the brakes so it now has new disc and pads in all four corners and the parking brakes when been replaced as well. I flushed the brake fluid though out and I know the calipers are good. At this point, I ruled out a problem with the brake system.

This shuddering happens at the time I remove my foot from the gas and I don't need to put my foot on the brakes to get the shuddering. If I'm cruising along at less than 30 and let up on the gas the shuddering starts and then it stops as I give it a little gas and will come back again as I let my foot up from the gas.

What might be the cause for this?

How healthy are your front suspension components? I do lean towards the driveline components, but it might be something else, like wheel bearings.

Good Luck

I'd for sure check the center support bearing. The rubber doughnut might be shot. Just reach under there and shove the driveshaft back and forth, if it bumps around you've got the culprit.

Check your motor, transmission mounts, and the rubber driveshaft support first.

I was thinking of the motor mounts but the tranny mount and the rubber drive shaft thing escaped me.

Thanks

Just had a similar problem on a 7 series. It was a U joint. I had replaced the center support bearing and it started when I decelerated approaching a light. If your U joints have zerks, grease them and see if there is a change.

Good advice, and easy to try before taking everything apart.

Look carefully for the grease ports. They are plugged, but you add your own zerk to grease them and then put the plug back.

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older, then it dawned on me . . . they're cramming for their final exam.

Good ideas here. I check these out in the morning, It will be a day of working on the car.

I didn't know about the grease ports. That's awesome.
