broken heater defrost control 200

My blower only functions on heater and floor mode (no defrost). I took the center console out and didn't see any obviously disconnected vacuum lines. Is the vacuum created by the blower itself? Is floor passage the default? I will take more of the front apart tomorrow. How can I check for bad vacuum? It could also be a stuck louver. What else could cause the problem? The did not come with AC.

The vacuum to the heating system is provided by a hose from the intake of the engine. This hose routs through the firewall on the passenger side and runs to a vacuum storage tank under the center console.

I suspect that either a hose has split/come off, or one of the vacuum actuated diaphragms has sprung a leak. The critical tool for finding the leak is a manual vacuum pump with a vacuum gauge on it, if you pull a vacuum and it leaks off, you are on the right track to finding the leak.

Good to know that vacuum comes from the engine even though I can start the blower without the engine running. I found my manual vacuum pump. So, I'll try pulling a vacuum on the tube that connects to the defrost switch on the center console and see if the defroster gets air? Need to fix this ASAP, it's already snowing in Ottawa!
